Welcome to the Jesus Football League (JFL)!

My name is Josh Dryer and I am the Community Missions pastor at First Baptist Church of Orange Park, Florida.  You have probably received your invite to play in our league, so let me give you the info.  The JFL is an adult football video game league.  Beginning September 10th, we will gather each week at Beef O’Brady’s (click here for directions).

I am excited to announce that we will be expanding the league into 2 divisions this season.  Division 1 will meet on Mondays from
8:00 – 9:30 pm and division 2 will meet on Thursdays from 7 – 8:30 to compete in a John Madden 2008 football game played on the Xbox 360.  There will be a total of 10 players in each division and each week you will come and play a different player head to head.  Once everyone has reached halftime, the game competition will be momentarily paused for a short (5-10 minute) Bible study devotion.  During these times I will present some challenging ideas to you.  Please understand that we won’t be hitting you over the head with the Bible (while a large heavy Bible does make a good weapon for self defense!) or forcing you to come to our church.  I just want to take a short amount of time each week to present to everyone some valuable life changing information about such things as our families, our jobs, and many other challenges we face in life.  These discussions will be exciting and thought provoking and applicable to your life.

If you think you can stand up to the pressure of being on the 20 down by 6 with 10 seconds to play and need a night out of the house, come check out the JFL where video games aren’t for kids anymore!
As I stated before, we only have room in this season for 20 players so register immediately.  Also check out the league rules page for a complete explanation of the league and how it will be played.
See you at Beef’s and don’t forget your ‘A’ game!

JFL News:

Well it's that time of year again!  The regular season games for Season 2 of the Jesus Football League begins this week.  We had an interesting time last week at the team selection and preseason games.  The players in division 1 have decided to forego the competitive league for a just for fun style of play due to some scheduling difficulties with some of the players.  The division 1 players do look forward to competing in the infamous MIT (Madden Invitational Tournament) at the end of the season.  With such players as Borden, Kiep, Sheppard, and Saunders it looks like the D1 players will give the D2 veterans a run for their money in the MIT playoffs.

The D2 players will be competing in the traditional regular season gaming with a seeded playoff at the end of the season.  Lewis joined a group of 7 men including: Struble, Walker, Jimenez, Herth, Grier, Dryer, and Brooks from last season to make D2 an 8 man league.  The team selection occurred this past Thursday and now the teams are set.  Lewis drew the first choice and selected the Philadelphia Eagles.  He plans to use their good offense and stifling defense to make a run at the playoffs.  Dryer didn't make any friends with his second pick selecting the Bears and forcing Herth to scatter for another team.  The returning Super Bowl champion Grier surprised everyone by leaving his Giants for the Bengals.  He is hoping that Chad Johnson will help him repeat this year.  Jimenez finally gave up on his dream of winning it all with the Jags and selected New Orleans.  Will have enough speed to run Jimenez into the playoffs this year?  Brooks also surprised everyone by leaving his Bucs, who gave him a number 1 spot in the playoffs last year, for the Niners.  He may still be a little disappointed in the team after they were upset by the low seeded Bears in the playoffs last year.  Herth was full of surprises with his pick of the Pats.  He will be a very formidable opponent with Brady and the Patriot defense.  Finally, Walker finished up the selection by taking the Chargers.  In his preseason game against Brooks he looked very good returning a kick for a touchdown and utilizing Tomlinson whenever possible.

JFL Season 2 kicks off this week.  Who will be standing just 10 short weeks from now….Can Grier retain the title?  Will Herth ever forgive Dryer?  Should Brooks have kept the Bucs…Time will only tell.
