News:
Well it's that time of year again! The regular season games for Season 2 of the Jesus Football League begins this week. We had an interesting time last week at the team selection and preseason games. The players in division 1 have decided to forego the competitive league for a just for fun style of play due to some scheduling difficulties with some of the players. The division 1 players do look forward to competing in the infamous MIT (Madden Invitational Tournament) at the end of the season. With such players as Borden, Kiep, Sheppard, and Saunders it looks like the D1 players will give the D2 veterans a run for their money in the MIT playoffs.
The D2 players will be competing in the traditional regular season gaming with a seeded playoff at the end of the season. Lewis joined a group of 7 men including: Struble, Walker, Jimenez, Herth, Grier, Dryer, and Brooks from last season to make D2 an 8 man league. The team selection occurred this past Thursday and now the teams are set. Lewis drew the first choice and selected the Philadelphia Eagles. He plans to use their good offense and stifling defense to make a run at the playoffs. Dryer didn't make any friends with his second pick selecting the Bears and forcing Herth to scatter for another team. The returning Super Bowl champion Grier surprised everyone by leaving his Giants for the Bengals. He is hoping that Chad Johnson will help him repeat this year. Jimenez finally gave up on his dream of winning it all with the Jags and selected New Orleans. Will have enough speed to run Jimenez into the playoffs this year? Brooks also surprised everyone by leaving his Bucs, who gave him a number 1 spot in the playoffs last year, for the Niners. He may still be a little disappointed in the team after they were upset by the low seeded Bears in the playoffs last year. Herth was full of surprises with his pick of the Pats. He will be a very formidable opponent with Brady and the Patriot defense. Finally, Walker finished up the selection by taking the Chargers. In his preseason game against Brooks he looked very good returning a kick for a touchdown and utilizing Tomlinson whenever possible.
JFL Season 2 kicks off this week. Who will be standing just 10 short weeks from now….Can Grier retain the title? Will Herth ever forgive Dryer? Should Brooks have kept the Bucs…Time will only tell.

“Champions Emerging”
Well with week 5 come and gone, some teams have shown promise to become the JFL champion while others appear to be falling apart. With the playoffs quickly approaching, each and every game becomes very important for everyone.
First up we find Struble’s Cowboys matched up against Grier’s Giants. Grier has come on very strong in recent weeks and faced a Struble team who has looked very good at times but not so good at other times. The first half was close with Struble finding himself down by only a touchdown at the half. Grier’s offense was too much however, for Struble and he would come away with the win.
Next, the unstoppable force of nature called the Herth Bears would be pitted against Walker’s Jags. Although one would think that the Jags would have put up a lightshow of points with Leftwich at the helm it was the Jags defense that made this a game and Walker held Herth to only 3 points and a tied score at the half. A fourth quarter score would be enough to give Herth the victory and one more step towards that cherished #1 seed in the JFL playoffs.
The Brooks Bucs came into their game with a chip on their shoulder from their defeat by the Dryer’s Bears just 2 weeks ago. Dryer’s Bears were caught by surprise, however, when Brooks brought a mysterious passing attack that Dryer could not stop. On a rainy November day at Soldier field, Dryer’s Bears fumbled the ball away 3 times and fumbled the game away to lose their second straight game in a row. Brooks is now above .500 and tied for third place.
The final game to be played was Borden’s Panthers verses Jimenez’s Jags. In a hard fought disqualification, Borden won his first game of the season and hopes to roll on from that to finish the season with 4 straight wins.
The end of the season is near. Can Herth be stopped? More importantly, will your wife let you proudly display the JFL Championship Trophy in your living room if you should win? We will see in 4 short weeks!

“Playoffs approaching”
With the fourth week of regular season games completed we are now half way through the first season of the JFL. This has definitely been an exciting year as each player becomes more and more experienced and discovers his own team’s strengths and weaknesses.
One of the anticipated games this week was between Herth’s Bears and Dryer’s Bears. Dryer was at home and also had the JFL crowd behind him (Struble mostly) because Herth has soundly and even arrogantly defeated everyone in his path. The game was tight throughout and the rainy weather played a factor in Herth’s passing game but Herth pulled away in the final minutes to give Dryer his first loss.
Brooks and his Bucs played Walker and his Jags. This game was also tight and both teams showed that they are intent on earning a spot in the playoffs but Brooks also pulled away in the fourth to gain his second win and become .500 for the season.
Next, Borden’s Panthers met up with Grier’s Giants. Borden was hoping to replicate Dryer’s earlier upset win over Grier and looked like he may do so as he jumped out to an early lead only to sputter out in the second half and lose to the very powerful offensive team of Grier.
Struble’s Cowboys gained his easiest win thus far in a forfeit over Jimenez’s Jags.
If the playoffs were to begin today, Herth would have the number 1 seed wrapped up no contest with his 4-0 record. Grier and Dryer would be tied for the 2nd and 3rd spots with each team at 3-1 and Struble, Brooks, and Jimenez would be tied for the 4th spot with records of 2-2. So it is evident that no single player has secured a bid in the playoffs. With four games remaining it is anyone’s game.

News:
Well, this week ended just like it began with four men satisfied with their win and four hungry for a chance at victory next week. This was perhaps one of the most interesting weeks as the match-ups would move us one step closer to knowing just who is the Madden master.
First, we had Jimenez’s Jaguars and Grier’s Giants face off. Jimenez looked to be a formidable opponent with a very serious passing game led by none other then Byron Leftwich. Well into the third quarter it looked as if Jimenez would find his third straight win, but Grier changed up his game plan giving the ball to his able running back Tiki Barber. Barber proved to be to much for the Jaguars and Grier was victorious.
Borden and his Panthers played Herth and his Bears this week hoping to break the ice and find his first victory. Herth and his Bears came into this game unbeaten and hoped to continue on in his winning streak. While Borden did seem to fall into a rhythm in his offense, Herth’s Bears were just too strong and Herth remained undefeated as he beat Borden.
Somehow, Dryer had managed to earn two wins before this week and was hoping to find his third against Brook’s Bucs. Brooks came into the game with a balanced offensive attack and a ferocious defense. Dryer, however, was able to pull out the win for another week.
Finally, Struble and his Cowboys battled Walker and his Jaguars. Both of these teams have been searching for a rhythm and their first win of the season. Struble had recently lost two straight games to Herth, but did not show any signs of failure in this game as he was able to beat Walker and gain his first win.

News:
Does it get any better then that? One may often times wonder if it does. Well week 3 had the promise to be another great week in the JFL. With so many great match-ups the anticipation was building throughout the week and as the Madden warriors entered the room (begin entrance music and slow motion walking) filled with TVs and 360s electricity filled the air (probably from all of the electronic equipment).
Herth and his Bears were to face off again due to poor scheduling by the commissioner against Struble and his Cowboys. With last week’s game being so close we expected a close one. Herth, however, managed to score first and develop an insurmountable lead over the 4 quarters of play. Who would have expected that the Bears would have such a powerhouse offense?
Jimenez and his Jaguars faced off against Walker and his Jaguars. This being Walker’s first regular season game, he had a lot of learning to do on the fly and did put up a good fight against the more experienced Jimenez team. Byron Leftwich verses Byron Leftwich, 2 MVPs on the field together, what a night!
Borden and his Panthers played Brooks and his Bucs. Immediately before the game began, controversy ensued as Borden was scrutinized about his “home game” advantage in that he played on his 360 system each week. While thinking that Borden would never fix up his team in a church football league, I couldn’t help be remember so many “church” softball teams I’ve played against in the past that were rather good. While in reality Borden would never do that, just to give everyone a chance to play on each system and different television we will rotate in the future. With the Panthers-Bucs game underway it became very clear that Borden is improving in his game play and is now beginning to utilize his strong Panther team. Brooks and his Bucs were too strong for him, however, taking the victory and bragging rights for the night.
The final game was the one that Dryer and his Bears were dreading all week. Grier and his Giants had just 2 weeks ago pounded Dryer’s team into submission in a preseason game. Dryer used a different game strategy, however, that was able to slow the pace of the game down to a crawl and Grier was unable to mobilize his offense against the Bear’s defense. While Dryer got the win for the game, there were definitely not any records broken this week in this slow moving game.
The 360s are running, the wings are hot, and the season presses on as we move into week 4 of the JFL. Who will come out on top? Do you have what it takes to win the inaugural JFL Championship trophy?

News:
Week 1 of the JFL began this Thursday night at Beef’s. Each player was surprised as the night began to find out that the weather conditions for each game were going to be chosen at random. There were no real game changing conditions, but we look forward to some interesting weather conditions in future games.
The first week’s games were exciting from the kickoff to the last down. Due to an absence, Borden stepped in to play Grier and his Giants. Although Grier had the win locked up automatically, he did not take it easy on Borden who was using the Jaguars of the absent player. Grier racked up quite a few points and yards in his win.
While Borden couldn’t catch any breaks against Grier, not much changed for him when he played his scheduled game using his Panthers against Dryer and his Bears. Two interceptions returned for touchdowns helped Dryer to a win.
Jimenez used his Jaguars to beat Brooks and the Bucs by using the golden arm of Leftwich. Brooks just couldn’t find an answer for the passing game that Jimenez threw at him.
Lastly, the most exciting game of the evening was between Struble and his Cowboys and Herth and his Bears. Herth jumped out to an early lead, but Struble fought back to even up the score and force the game into overtime. In overtime, with everything on the line, Struble was able to block Herth’s field goal but Herth was able to recover the blocked kick and retry successfully giving him the win.
Looks like we are underway for an excellent season!

News:
Well we have kicked off the JFL season 1 with our first and only preseason game. It was a night which built up the confidence of some and a night which caused others to question their allegiance to their chosen squad. The chicken wings and soda were a plenty in the back room at Beef’s but Josh and his Chicago Bears couldn’t buy any points in his whipping at the hands of Jamaal and his NY Giants. The only bright spot of the game for Josh was the lone touchdown scored in the first half. Jamaal has come to be known now as the man to beat this season. Brian and his Carolina Panthers faced John and the Dallas Cowboys. The game was tight throughout but John pulled away in the final seconds to beat Brian and win the confrontation of the accountants. Randy also controlling the Bears played against Neal and the Jacksonville Jaguars. The final matchup of the night was Mario and the Jacksonville Jaguars versus Ryan and the Jacksonville Jaguars. This game was also very close throughout.
The 360’s have been broken out of their boxes and the regular season begins this week. Who will come out on top? Who will take home the JFL Season 1 trophy?

Welcome to the Jesus Football League (JFL)!
My name is Josh Dryer and I am the Community Missions pastor at First Baptist Church of Orange Park, Florida. You have probably received your invite to play in our league, so let me give you the info. The JFL is an adult football video game league. Beginning May 3rd, we will gather each week at Beef O’Brady’s (click here for directions) from 7 – 8:30 to compete in a John Madden 2007 football game played on the Xbox 360. There will be a total of 10 players in the league and each week you will come and play a different player head to head. Once everyone has reached halftime, the game competition will be momentarily paused for a short (5-10 minute) discussion. During these times I will present some challenging ideas to you. Please understand that we won’t be hitting you over the head with the Bible (while a large heavy Bible does make a good weapon for self defense!) or forcing you to come to our church. I just want to take a short amount of time each week to present to everyone some valuable life changing information about such things as our families, our jobs, and many other challenges we face in life. These discussions will be exciting and thought provoking and applicable to your life.
If you think you can stand up to the pressure of being on the 20 down by 6 with 10 seconds to play and need a night out of the house come check out the JFL where video games aren’t for kids anymore!
As I stated before, we only have room in this initial season for 10 players so register immediately. Also check out the league rules page for a complete explanation of the league and how it will be played.
See you at Beef’s and don’t forget your ‘A’ game!
